I am ex Looker, former Data Scientist, MiT dropout, and obsessed with accuracy and data. Now, you go...
But first, a few words about this newsletter.
How it started..
This letter originally started as a way to keep the conversation going with some of my former consulting clients. I aimed to provide an opinion outside of anything influenced by software vendors. In this attempt, I evaluated vendors and shared openly my opinions.
When Covid hit the world, I shifted my focus to interviews and social media because I wanted to meet more people. And I’ve managed to interview former leading data scientists from companies such as OpenDoor, Adobe, Microsoft, Facebook, AppsFlyer, Optimizely to name just a few out of nearly a hundred.
And in the process I have come to share this newsletter with tens of thousands of subscribers across several Social Media pages as well as here, on Substack.
However, over the last 4 years much has changed. The data space now has a number of highly competent Newsletters without any vendor affiliations. And the AI wave has stole all the thunder, making a “Data letter” less relevant without some focus on AI.
More importantly, I also started my own AI<>Data start-up, and don’t have as much time to do the data space all the justice it deserves. I’ve considered doing what Tristan Handy, another former consultant and a successful founder, has done - namely to keep the newsletter, and sponsor it with my own start-up’s branding, but there is enough of such vendor-sponsored newsletters and I don’t think the world needs another one.
Which brings me to You.
What would you like to see here in the future?
The way people get to this newsletter often surprises me. Some have subscribed to our LinkedIn page. Others found us, among all places, on Quora. Since the way people got to this newsletter is often as mysterious to you as it is to me, I like to understand a bit about how you see this newsletter and its future.
Please help me by responding to some of the questions below:
One of the potential ideas is to focus this newsletter more on AI start-ups. I personally likely know upwards of 500+ Founders in the AI space across 5-7 countries. Would start-up coverage be compelling for this newsletter?
If I do cover start-ups, how should I prioritize my focus:
I could, of course, go back to doing some of the same things I’ve done before - like interviewing people.
Finally, there are likely ideas right in the open that are so obvious to you that you feel compelled to share them. If that’s the case, please leave a comment below.
Thank You!
